The creators are also celebrating the impending release of a video game based on Blacksad, titled Blacksad: Under the Skin, which will be released by Pendulo Studios and Microids in November. Creators Canales and Guarnido will both be in attendance at NYCC, with signings scheduled for Thursday and Friday in the Dark Horse booth. The 2020 release of Blacksad: The Complete Stories will coincide with the 20th anniversary of the title’s original publication in France. Be it solving the murder of a famous actress or keeping nuclear weapons out of terrorist hands, Blacksad’s grim work often provides a mirror for real world conflict and human issues, never turning a blind eye to racism, political tensions, or brutally sudden violence. Sticking his nose into mystery after mystery, often getting involved with women almost as dangerous as the criminals he thwarts. Here’s how Dark Horse describes Blacksad:īlacksad is constantly up to his ears in trouble. The series follows a private detective, John Blacksad, who also happens to be an anthropomorphic cat. Included stories will come from three different Blacksad series, Blacksad, Blacksad: A Silent Hell, and Blacksad: Amarillo. She sports a Goth look, seems permanently angry, and is closed off to Evan. This year, when Lucy comes back, she has changed. The point of view switches back and forth unevenly between Lucy and Evan it is mostly Evan’s story. Lucy moved away when her parents divorced, and Evan now only sees her once a year, over Christmas break, when Lucy returns to visit her father. This is the saga of Evan and Lucy, best friends since forever, who are now seventeen. The story did not move me much, except to irritation over the immaturity of the characters and even more so, over the excessively detailed descriptions of everything they said to one another, no matter how inane or monumentally inconsequential. For another, there’s something really fun about slowly getting to know someone as they send you notes about their lives. Yet, I believe there’s still plenty value in forming a relationship with someone you’ve never met before who lives in a different place than you do.įor one thing, when you send notes of your own to a pen pal, you’re really thinking about what it is about your day-to-day life that someone else may find interesting. Have you ever had a pen pal? Someone you connected with who lived far away and wrote letters to you about what her life was like? In today’s world where it’s so easy to connect technologically, it may seem old fashioned to have a pen pal. That means it will be impossible for Lucasfilm to do a straight adaptation, because there are simply too many contradictions. Of course, the Thrawn Trilogy features Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo, and their arcs in the books are totally different to those now established in the canon - especially in Chuck Wendig's Aftermath trilogy. Grand Admiral Thrawn soon made his debut in Star Wars Rebels, while Zahn was hired once again to spell out the Grand Admiral's origins and time with the Empire in a best-selling series of novels.
